Favorite Little Things - ROTK
The Favorite Little Things lists have been a favorite at Stupidring since we created the site. I originally started the list for the Fellowship because I felt that too many fans were getting bogged down with what was missing from the movie -- to the point where they weren't enjoying the great stuff that was there.

Since then, the lists have been great for sharing many of the wonderful little details of the movies. Like they say in the DVD extras, it's the details that make the cultures, and the details that make Middle-earth look and sound amazingly real.

If you've enjoyed the lists for FOTR and TTT, here's your chance to contribute to the list for the Return of the King. Just read the guidelines and then click "Post a comment" to add your favorite little thing.

Participants please read:

- Responses may be used on Stupidring.com. Long movie reviews probably won't make it to the list. Try to be less verbose than me (Idril).

- There are plenty of places to talk about what you don't like about the movie. This list is for the stuff you do like.

- I usually put these in chronological order, so any help you can give me about the scene you're referring to would be greatly appreciated.

- Duplicates are okay (as you can tell from the other lists.)

- Please sign your first name, a screen name or a nickname. (Which reminds me. If you're 13 or over you can now get a free livejournal account with no invite code. It's free. Just click here and sign up.)

- I'm not going to read the comments myself until after I see the movie! Please email me if the trolls get out of hand.

Anyways, i am new at this. If u saw the battle begin at helm's deep, there were 250+ pound Uruk-hai in metal shoes charging through the mud. During their sprint to the wall and throughout the battle, they never slipped in the mud caused by the rain!!!!! must be some special metal shoes.

ROTK was fantastic! There were so many things I loved. Two come to mind right now. When Gandalf, Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas and company come upon Pippin and Merry at Isengard, you can see Legolas over Gimli's right shoulder and he has the biggest grin on his face.

I loved how Arwen said "Ada?", after she asked him to reforge Narsil. The question and the implied "Daddy, please do this for me" in that one word was so sweet and heartbreaking all at once.

Smeagol's hideous transformation into Gollum as the introduction to the film. Yukky!!!

Merry giving Pippin a pouch of Pipeweed before Gandalf takes him to Minas Tirith and telling him that Pippin's own was all gone because, 'You smoke too much Pip.' :p

Arwen seeing a glimpse of her future on the way to the Grey Havens and sees Aragorn with her son Eldarion and deciding to go back to Rivendell and in turn to Aragorn. Eldarion looked like he could have been Aragorn and Arwen's son!

Just before Pippin and Gandalf enter Denethor's halls Gandalf tells Pippin not to mention Boromir, then not to mention Frodo and the Ring and then telling him to not speak of Aragorn either before saying finally 'Perhaps it would be best if you did not speak at all Peregrin Took.'

Pippin swearing fealty to Denethor in debt to Boromir saving he and Merry's lives and you can see that it touched Denethor somewhere in his heart by the small smile he gets on his face.

When Faramir and his men are riding back to Osgiliath into almost certain death and Pippin singing to Denethor over the top. It was the most beautiful song and done very well by Billy.

Nazgul lifting soldiers at the Pelennor and dropping them from dizzying heights.

Legolas' acrobatics atop the enormous Mumakil then after killing it calmly sliding off the trunk with style! Gimli's comment 'That still counts as one!'

Aragorn giving Arwen the huge kiss at his corronation! Awwww!

Pippin catching the bouquet at Sam's wedding and giving a hobbit lass (probably Diamond) a suggestive glance. ;)

Big hugs among hobbits at the Grey Havens. Very very moving.

In the credits I loved the picture of the character next to each of the main actors names, really cool!

The scene is that of Narsil reforged into Anduril. Arwen recites Bilbo's poem during the shots.
"From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken:
The crownless again shall be king."
(I think is the right order 4 the lines)

My favorite things were when Elrond and Aragorn said the Linnod of Gilraen (Onen i-Estel Edain, u-chebin estel anim) and when Frodo said "Aiya Earendil elenion ancalima" in Shelob's lair. In fact, I was overjoyed anytime I heard a direct quote from the book.

To heal my heart and drown my woe.
Rain may fall and wind may blow,

And stream that falls from hill to plain!
Better than rain or rippling brook,
Is a mug of beer inside this Took!

fav part in the whole movie?
when frodo has to say goodbye. all his life he's never been away from sam, and merry and pippin he has only been away from for a short while. it is so sad.
when he hugged merry, and pippin, i was tearing
when he kissed sam's forehead, that is when the tears started flowing and i could no longer stand to watch. it was too beautiful.

The tears in Faramir's eyes when Denethor tells him he wished he had died instead of Boromir.

When Denethor bites into the cherry during Pippin's song, and it looks like dripping blood.

Gandalf describing death to Pippin ("all will turn to silver glass".) I almost started crying.

Merry and Pippin jumping onto Frodo's bed at the end...and then Gimli standing in the doorway, grinning.

The huge kiss at Aragorn's coronation!

The entire theater sniffling as Frodo hugged Merry and Pippin, then kissed Sam on the forehead before getting on the ship.

3. Arwen coming at the end. Knew it was going to happen, still cryed even more.
4. The bowing to the hobbits.
5. The dead in general. Wicked SFX. Cool.

RotK - favourite bit(s)
[info]just_marzipan
2003-12-19 04:54 pm UTC (link)
My favourite bits were... all of it really. But if I had to chose then... I dunno really. I think my four most favourite were:

-At the End when Merry and Pip were jumping on Frodo Frodo's bed and all the fellowship came into the room. It was particularly the bit when Sam appeared. The look on his face *dissolves*

-All the Merry and Pippin scenes. They were so touching. I shall combine this with "you smoke too much Pip", which I was going to put separately.

-Singing!Pippin. I don't think there's an explanation needed here

Lastly...

- Sam and Frodo sitting on that rock after throwing the ring into the fire, just before the eagles come and rescue them. Sotouching!

It’s such a brilliant film. Overall.
